Urgent Appeal for 20 Year Old Special Needs Cat
We've recently become aware of a desperately sad situation involving Tijen, a sweet-natured cat who, due to some complicated health issues, has found herself in need of rehoming at around twenty years of age. We are looking for a long-term foster carer or adopter for her, with CatCuddles covering her veterinary treatment at our collaborating vets in Greenwich for the rest of her life.
Tijen's health issues, combined with her advanced age, mean that finding her a new home is going to be very difficult. She needs someone who is extremely rescue-minded, kind and out to save a life - the type of adopter who is like gold dust to us animal sanctuaries. Nethertheless, we have to try.
Tijen is currently suffering from the feline equivalent of irritable bowel syndrome, and as a result she has been defecating outside of her litter tray. She manages to urinate inside it just fine, and is otherwise very healthy for her stage of life, but simply struggles when it comes to pooping in the right place. The medication she's been prescribed for her IBS has yet to solve the problem, but there is a possibility that CatCuddles' vet, due to lots of experience with special cases, will have further suggestions for treatment. Cat diapers, often used for elderly and special needs cats, are also a possibility.
Though Tijen has been much loved in her current home, her owner is struggling to cope with this situation, and is becoming increasingly desperate. Aside of this digestive issue she is a very loving and affectionate cat, happy to nap on a lap for hours, and always keen to be close to humans. She will need a home without carpets for obvious reasons, and a safe outside space is optional. She's not yet been tested with other cats. If we find someone wonderful enough to take Tijen on, we'll work with them closely to attempt to minimize and control Tijen's problem as much as possible, offering support as well as veteinary treatment. We would have nothing but admiration for someone so big-hearted.
A healthy girl despite her condition, who loves fuss and company, Tijen is still capable of having a happy & comfortable life. We don't want to see that cut short, and hope that with the right person, she will be allowed to enjoy every moment of the time she has left.
